Note from the Prez Delta's January Birthday Folk Membership Report Delta's Holiday Party Members' Corner |
This has been an exciting year for Delta Miata Club and I look forward to 2004 with our new Board and volunteers. We're planning a transition meeting in early January but the baton has already begun its shift -- you can get a hint of the fun times to come by looking at the outstanding success of our annual party, which the Menches organized.
I
had stated a year ago that I would be in office for only one year, for I felt it
was important to continue bringing new ideas into the Club. My role now
will continue to focus on events plus I'm your new Newsletter editor and
Webmaster. Please bear with me as I shift gears into this new challenge.
It's winter time, but there
are many possibilities to get out and enjoy our Miatas. Sometimes
it's at the drop of a hat, with an "impromptu run" where one member puts an
email out and says, "anyone want to go for a run Saturday? or Sunday?"
These aren't Delta Miata Club events, but rather more casual "let's just get
together and go somewhere" events and are truly fun things.
Try
one -- better yet, suggest one! This is a good use for DeltaMCnews group
-- the email that every Delta Miata Club member can become part of, to keep
abreast of casual, member to member/group communications. There's a link
on our home page that you can click on to sign up (it uses Yahoo).
One of my roles will be to maintain the calendar, and I see we're starting with a clean slate. That means folk have to step up and pick a date, to lead a run. I'll be adding events from other clubs in the area onto our calendar, so there should always be something fun to do. On the right, you can see what I call the "Graffiti Bridge", out in the Valley. Coming up, I recommend you consider SJVMC's "Coastal Run" on Feb 7-8th. Awesome scenery and good camaraderie (and don't forget karaoke!).

Happy Birthday Wishes From Everyone in Delta Miata Club!!!
It's time to send in your membership renewal checks for 2004. At $24, it's a bargain -- food, fun, friendship, Miatas -- what more could you ask for? If you DO think of something else, suggest it to the Board -- we're always looking for more fun ideas for the Club.
DMC membership includes 53 active memberships and 82 members.

It was a dicey day for a drive into the Delta -- rain had
been forecast for Sunday, Dec 7th, and the previous days were wet. But the
sun shone through as Delta members gathered at one of our usual starting points
by Burger King/K-Mark at the west end of the Antioch
Bridge. It was time to drive, eat and party -- three of our favorite Miata
activities!
Barbara Mensch had arranged for a great luncheon at the Riverboat II Restaurant out in the Delta and we had over 30 folk coming to it. After discussing the fastest and the most scenic routes to follow, the group voted for a fairly direct route and I said, "OK, ignore map #2 -- we'll follow the route as shown on map #1". Then I put my own copy of the map into the trunk and off we went. Needless to say, we covered a little extra scenery after passing by our turn, but we made it to the restaurant with only one U-turn!
Festive
decorations and the smell of good food awaited us as we put our wrapped
ornaments under the tree and settled in to chat and eat. Each place had a
collection of decorations (thanks, Ron Chevrier!) and chocolates that helped
move our holiday spirits into higher gear.
We all applauded the great service that the Riverboat II
crew afforded us and the food was first rate. Then the fun REALLY began, as we
started our ornament exchange. I'd thought it'd be a simple swap but
Barbara and Larry said we'd raffle off the ornaments, BUT there was a catch:
each "winner" could either select a wrapped ornament from under the tree OR
"claim" someone else's ornament instead. This led to some great rounds of
delighted discoveries and heart-wrenching losses as folk joyfully retrieved
objects of their desire. The suspense built with each new winner:
would we find out what the box contains, or would the person instead pick out
that ornament from across the room and claim it! "Um, let me see the
ornament you're accidentally hiding under your napkin there" was heard more than
once as folk teasingly tried to keep their new treasures.
Everyone had a great time and we even had some prizes to give out, thanks to the generous contributions of Crazy Red Italian, Flying Miata and Adrenaline Racing. (We've got some very supportive vendors here, folk -- and let's support them, in turn, when we need Miata stuff.)
The weather continued to be beautiful and we all decided that a group photo was a must. We all chatted in the parking lot for a while, not wanting the fun event to end, then one by one we all headed back home.
Thanks to the Mensches for organizing it, to Ron and others who made some great decorations, to the restaurant staff who worked so well and showed such good spirits, and especially to all of the members who came to help make the day so nice for us all. It certainly helped put the "happy" in Happy Holidays!
