Blackhawk
Auto Museum
or
How to Get Lost on a One Lane Road
by Betty Retzer
September 16th was an absolutely beautiful day and our run was
needed after the events of September 11th. There were a
gazillion cars that met us in the parking lot of PeeWee's (well, ok,
maybe it was only 15 or so but it sure looked like a gazillion!).
Bob led all of us on some of the back roads that he takes to work
each day - most of us caught the left turn onto Morgan Territory
road. We stopped and waited for the others to catch up with us
and then headed toward the top of the ridges surrounding Mt. Diablo.
WOW is about all that I can say. There was a view for everyone
- houses, horses, fog and the valley.
We arrived at Blackhawk to find a few more cars waiting for us - a
total of 18 Miatas and 1 other (his Miata had been stolen). We
parked on the Plaza and of course took lots of pictures (see them on
our website). Irv was the docent leading our tour and he
provided lots of stories and information about all of the wonderful
cars in the museum. The Titanic exhibit was small but still
powerful. It reminded me too much of our own recent horrible
events.
We had lunch at the first restaurant we found open (I didn't even
get the name of it) and the food was great. Considering that
they were supposed to have closed just shortly after we arrived,
they did a great job of accommodating all of us.
It was a great adventure and yes, I lied about getting lost - even I
cannot get lost on a one lane road. Thank you to everyone who
joined us and helped make this a wonderful event.
